Quote of the Moment:

“I've continued to recognize the power individuals have to change virtually anything and everything in their lives in an instant. I've learned that the resources we need to turn our dreams into reality are within us, merely waiting for the day when we decide to wake up and claim our birthright.”

For example on some land that I manage, I can choose between this (area 1):

this..... (area 2)
or this: (area 3)

These areas have the same physical foundations and lie within a 500 m radius of each other. The difference you see here is management.

The principle behind this is: "form follows function" - in much the same way that the genetic expression of biological organisms is a function of nutrition. In fact "area 1" is the same as "area 3" after a change of management.

I am not making a value judgment about any of these areas, because in the appropriate context, each one of these conditions has merit. I merely wish to state the obvious: Desert will not feed many living organisms.

Desertification due to human mismanagement is currently said to be increasing at over 16 000 ha. a day.

DESERTIFICATION = THE IMPOVERISHMENT OF ENVIRONMENTS

As with POVERTY and UNEMPLOYMENT, if the will is there and if the appropriate conditions are created, it can be stopped and turned around.
